Server resume example

A restaurant server's resume with the numbers a general manager knows — covers, check average, add-on sales — and the alcohol and food-handler cards a hiring manager checks first.

Invented for this page. The name, the employers and every number in it are made up — a real resume is somebody’s personal data and is not ours to publish.

Written for applications in the United States. The notes say what to change elsewhere.

Why it is written this way

  • Covers and check average are a server's numbers

They show volume and selling, which is what a general manager is hiring for. “Provided excellent customer service” is on every application in the pile and proves nothing.

  • Cards go in the summary, with their state

A seller-server certification and a food handler card are required to work a shift, so they sit in the first lines where a manager screening for them will look.

  • Training new hires signals trust

Being asked to train new servers says the manager relies on you. It gets its own bullet, with a count and what changed because of it.

  • US conventions: Letter, city and state

No street address, photo or date of birth — US employers do not expect them. The page is set on Letter paper.

Shapes to fill in

Each blank is yours to complete. These are the same scaffolds the builder offers for this occupation — none of them says anything until you fill it in, which is what keeps them useful rather than a lie somebody else wrote.

What a parser reads from this resume

This is the actual plain-text output for the document above — the same text an applicant tracking system extracts, and the same text this app hands you when you download the .txt. Nothing is lost between the page and the parser, which is the whole argument for a single column of real text.
