Retail Store Manager resume example

Store management written as a P&L, because that is what the role is once you are running one.

Invented for this page. The name, the employers and every number in it are made up — a real resume is somebody’s personal data and is not ours to publish.

Why it is written this way

  • A store is a small business, and the resume should read like it

Sales, margin, shrink, labour cost and staff retention are the five numbers a district manager looks at. A resume that names them is speaking the language of the job being applied for.

  • Comparable growth, not raw sales

“Grew sales 12%” could be a new store opening into empty demand. “12% comparable growth against a district average of 4%” is a claim about this manager rather than about the market.

  • Staff turnover is the bullet most managers leave out

It is the number that most predicts whether the next store will run well, and it is entirely within a store manager's control.

Shapes to fill in

Each blank is yours to complete. These are the same scaffolds the builder offers for this occupation — none of them says anything until you fill it in, which is what keeps them useful rather than a lie somebody else wrote.

What a parser reads from this resume

This is the actual plain-text output for the document above — the same text an applicant tracking system extracts, and the same text this app hands you when you download the .txt. Nothing is lost between the page and the parser, which is the whole argument for a single column of real text.
